Summary

A foolproof guide both to lying and to detecting deception, The CIA Guide to Lying and Lie Detection will teach you how the pros can tell if and when somebody is lying。

People lie all the time。 Studies show that the average American lies between six and twenty times a day。  Most lies are of the “little white” variety or are meant to spare a person’s feelings。 But what about the big lies?  What about the consequential ones? You have a right to know when somebody is lying to you。

Now, imagine if you had the tools to spot a lie from the truth—a guide to perfect your sixth sense。 Whether it's finding out if you truly got the job, unmasking an infidelity, or a simple recommendation, you will no longer have to spend hours, days, or even weeks pondering about it。

Through the easy-to-follow instructions and professional anecdotes in The CIA Guide to Lying and Lie Detection, you’ll learn to lie and spot lies from John Kiriakoua former CIA counterterrorism officer and senior investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee responsible for the capture of Abu Zubaydah。

Remember, CIA operations officers are trained to lie。 They lie all the time。 When they are working undercover, they are actually living a lie。 With the CIA as a teacher, you’ll learn how to tell。

Not what I was expecting。 I thought I’d get pointers on how to detect dishonesty。 This is not what the book is。 It’s more of a text book on the subject of interrogation in all its forms。 Interesting at times。 Great for someone going into a career that involves interrogation。 But if you think you’re going to crack the code on deception, you won’t get it from this book。

This book isn't very long to begin with, and it spends the first third discussing famous liars throughout history。 Then it gets into categories of lies and liars, and finally discusses police and military interrogation techniques。 None of this is very helpful for the average person because different kinds of liars require different interrogation methods, but I still have no clue how to spot a spur-of-the-moment occasional liar from a psychopath。 The book does NOT give me "the tools to spot a lie This book isn't very long to begin with, and it spends the first third discussing famous liars throughout history。 Then it gets into categories of lies and liars, and finally discusses police and military interrogation techniques。 None of this is very helpful for the average person because different kinds of liars require different interrogation methods, but I still have no clue how to spot a spur-of-the-moment occasional liar from a psychopath。 The book does NOT give me "the tools to spot a lie from the truth" or tell me how to "learn to lie and spot lies。" It is rambling, superficial, and poorly edited。 At one point, referring to the Trojan horse story, it says the fleeing Trojans left the horse for the Greeks, when it was actually the other way around。 Then it says that Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos dressed like Queen Elizabeth (it never says which Queen Elizabeth, I or II), when actually she dressed like her idol, Steve Jobs。 How on earth can you mistake Queen Elizabeth for Steve Jobs? And what's up with the section on Satanic rituals? What do Satanic rituals have to do with lying? Finally, police and military interrogation techniques offer very little help for the average person to detect a lie。 Anyway。 Done。 。。。more

Manual for would-be psychopaths and those that haven't read Duped: Why Innocent People Confess - And Why We Believe Their Confessions and think that the CIA might be on our side more than the judiciary, police or any authority that is involved in making laws or persecuting people。 It's also quite phenomenally boring。 I've read 16 chapters and my mind is as numb as if I'd left my brain in the freezer overnight。 Time to move on。 Why 3 stars? Because I don't think it is a bad book。 For someone else Manual for would-be psychopaths and those that haven't read Duped: Why Innocent People Confess - And Why We Believe Their Confessions and think that the CIA might be on our side more than the judiciary, police or any authority that is involved in making laws or persecuting people。 It's also quite phenomenally boring。 I've read 16 chapters and my mind is as numb as if I'd left my brain in the freezer overnight。 Time to move on。 Why 3 stars?
